KYETTA MAY

Head Coach at KSU – 2007 to 2013

Kyetta May is an East St. Louis, Illinois native. She became Kentucky State University woman’s volleyball head coach in 2007.

Kyetta May graduated from Alabama A&M University (Normal, AL) with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Environmental Science. While at Alabama A&M University, she played volleyball from 1998-2001. During that time, she received several outstanding awards such as: The Lady Speedstick Sportswoman of the Year and the Street and Smart Eddie Robinson Award. She also was the Arthur Ashe Junior Sports Scholar recipient.

Kyetta is considered one of the best volleyball coaches in KSU history. During her five year career, she had the school’s highest SIAC Conference regular season winning percentage of .971 as she had 66 victories out of 68 league games. Her overall record is 125 wins – 81 losses for a .606 winning percentage.

In the SIAC, Coach May was the Western Division Champion for each of her five seasons. She won the SIAC Conference Championship twice (2010-11) and was the SIAC Conference Runner-up on two occasions (2008-09). In 2010, Coach May made school history by playing in their first NCAA Division 2 National Championship tournament. She repeated this accomplishment the following 2011 season.

The SIAC named Coach May the 2008 Coach of the Year. She was also selected by the SIAC in 2010 and 2011 as the SIAC Coach of the Conference Tournament.

During Coach May’s tenure, her athletes earned many awards in the SIAC. She had sixteen athletes earning All-Conference honors. Eight athletes earned first team All-Conference, and eight athletes earned second team All-Conference honors.

The SIAC All-Tournament Championship, Coach May had ten athletes earning SIAC All-Tournament honors. In the 2010 and 2011 seasons, she had athletes winning the SIAC League Most Valuable Player awards. In 2008 and 2011, she had players which won the SIAC Defensive Player of the Year Award.

While at KSU, Coach May was heavily involved in the Frankfort community. She started the Frankfort Elite Volleyball Association in 2010. She organized sixteen volleyball club teams where she conducted individual skill and team practices, training, and competition.

Coach May currently lives in Towson, Maryland and is the Assistant Director/Learning Specialist at Towson University. She is married to Warren May and has a son, Kyler.
