Robert Brown, a Port Orange, Florida (Mainland High School) native, was recruited by Coach Smith. He played for Coach Fred Farrier, starting his sophomore season.

Robert was a 5’10”, 190 lb., Defensive Back and Linebacker. He grew into one of KSU’s outstanding defenders. He was quick, strong and consistent during his four years at KSU.

As a sophomore, he was second on the team in total tackles, with 71. He had 38 solo tackles and 33 assisted tackles. He won the “Strongest Man Pound for Pound Award” at KSU. He won the “Big Stick Player of the Week Award” for his outstanding play against Lenoir Rhyne College.

During his Junior year, Robert led the team with 41 tackles and 24 assisted tackles for a total of 65 tackles. He had 7.5 tackles for a loss, totaling 49 yards. KSU went on to have a 6 win - 5 loss season.

In 2006 Robert’s senior year, he once again led KSU in tackles with 51. He had 40 solo tackles. He led the team with 14 stops behind the line of scrimmage, good for 87 loss yards. During the game against Central State University, Robert led the Thorobreds defensively by recording 11 tackles and had a quarterback sack. For the season, the class of 2007 were the first team to go four consecutive years with a winning record. The team finished with a 7-4 record but had 27 wins and had 17 losses in the last four years. This was the best four years with a win-loss record. This feat had not been accomplished by Kentucky State University in over 60 years.

Robert was the KSU “Most Outstanding Defensive Back” as a senior. He was ranked 32nd in sacks on the Division 2 level. He played on a defense that was ranked 32nd nationally for quarterback sacks in Division 2. As an outside safety, he recorded 8 quarterback sacks. Between 2004 – 2006 he led KSU in tackles. The 2006 season, he was ranked 27th overall in the SIAC in tackles but was 5th among all defensive backs.
The NCAA Division 2 stat’s for “Pass Sack”, Robert was 33rd nationally, for the 2006 season. In a three-year span, he has the most recorded sacks (18) by a defensive back in KSU football history. His total stats were, Tackles (222); Sacks (18); Tackles for Lost (33); Fumble Force (4); Fumble Recoveries (3); Touchdowns (2); and Pass Breakups (15).

Robert earned four Athletic Letters in each of his four years. He was team captain during his junior and senior seasons.

Robert is currently residing in Daytona Beach, Florida. He is married to Akrisza Brown. They have two daughters, Taylor and London. He has been a registered nurse for over 10 years. He’s an Assistant Director of Nursing and is continuing his education, part-time at the University of North Florida. He is also a member of “Phi Beta Sigma, Inc.”
